The first three English Undergraduate Conferences have been, as one student raved, "a great celebration of talent and new ideas emerging from the undergraduates!"
We expect the Fourth Annual English Undergraduate Conference, April 4-5, 2013, to be better still. Here is the schedule. Please register to attend!
For the third year, the conference will also include a special noon program on publishing, with luminaries from Twin Cities publishers speaking and answering questions on a Publishing Careers panel. The conference features lunchtime career and graduate school panels as well. Questions? Answers.
Other responses from past conferences:
"I liked hearing my peers read their work; it was truly inspiring and interesting to see what they see in a piece of writing."
"I loved the Q & A with the publishing professionals! It was very helpful to get advice from people who had the same dream in college as I do now; learning how they reached that dream was instructive."
"I really enjoyed the session on Thursday night that included a performance by Brian Laidlaw and a reading by John Jodzio. It was awesome and inspiring to hear from U of M graduates who continue to purse writing as more than just something 'on the side.'"
"The discussions after the readings went in interesting directions--I liked discussing what the students actually wrote about, but then also branching out and discussing more broadly how certain techniques and approaches to writing apply to literature."
"I liked the variety that is offered when there is one analytical paper, short stories, and poetry [in a session]."
"Free food! Delicious!"
The English Undergraduate Conference is paid for in part by a generous grant from the Coca-Cola Academic Initiative.
